The families of young people unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an painful period of uncertainty for answers and requesting clues about their family members via social media.

The blaze ripped through the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Circulated images depict the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson said on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been identified, with work ongoing to name the other six.

In the meantime, relatives have been posting on the internet to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were at the bar that night.

Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his mother.

The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.

"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she told the paper.

She continued that some of his companions had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."

The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its citizens remain missing.

Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.

The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and authentic values."

His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and found himself at the bar.

"A close friend told me they escaped after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
